Dagny discovers dentistry
Dagny went to the dentist for the first time yesterday, before checking in late at school.
She looked forward to her appointment and spoke of it often, with great enthusiasm, for at least three weeks prior to the day.
But once there, Audrey said she became somber and would barely open her mouth to speak.
I think she looks mobbed up. Like, mess with me and I'll break your kneecaps on the playground.
Open wide, Dag. Try not to smile.
The news was all good -- no cavities -- with one tiny exception: Dagny's mouth is small and the bottom teeth somewhat crowded.
Orthodontia may be called for in the future.
But I figure, what dentist doesn't say that upon examining the choppers of your average six-year-old?
Although I hasten to add, there is nothing average about Dagny.
Audrey reported that the wee child fell asleep in the car on the way to school after seeing the dentist.
The whole experience wore her out that much.
But she was at school in time to have lunch with her peers and, I hope, enjoy a spot of outside play.
In addition to learning, which of course is a given.
What have I learned?
Well, it's like this. I told Leslie, my dental hygienist at the same dentist's office that Dagny visited (Leslie can be seen in the picture above): I love you guys but I wouldn't even drive by this place if I didn't have to ... much less come inside.
Leslie thought that was so funny, she repeated it to the dentist, who thought it was funny too.
The things we do just because we have to.
They are worthwhile although occasionally onerous.
Best to keep smiling.
And that is all for now.

I have never heardof anyone looking forward to the dentist! So her familt must have done an awesome job preparing her for it! Good thing her teeth did not need any work. Love the paisley covering!
I love my hygienist and dentist but hate that chair I have to sit in and all their noisy tools.
My thoughts on dentists are the same as yours!
Dagny was brave and I'm glad she had no cavities. I love the soft, colorful blanket they have over her.
Our Alaina had to have braces for a similar reason. Her bottom teeth were very crowded. Aaron had the same issue when he was young. She just got them off last week and was very happy about that!
Are the dark glasses, a usual part of this 'drill'? -smile-
Small mouth issues... Our youngest "Grand" is the same. Well, actually, so am I.
In school... Imagine that! -chuckle- But then, private schools have been going since Sept., without much issue. <---Another "Imagine that!"
Me'thinks 'The Pirate' might be interested in my latest post.....

@Ginny ... I imagine you're right, that no one really EVER enjoys going to the dentist. Mine (ours) is such a great guy and his staff so sweet and kind, that it helps. But not enough. Haaahaa xoxo
@Judy ... Girl I FEEL you! SAME! Hahahaha xoxo
@Mari ... I am intrigued by Alana having already been in and out of braces! I associate that with being a teenage thing. I hope Dagny doesn't have to go through that any time soon. And we should make all dentists walk the plank! But we'd rescue them afterwards. Well ... SOME of them, haaahaha. xoxo
@Mari-Nanci ... My dentist and hygienist put the glasses on you but when I go they're not dark glasses, so I'm not sure what this is all about but isn't she FUNNY? And yes, she attends private school as do all of my school-age grands so we are so glad that the doors are still open. I'll be over to check out your post in a few minutes! xoxo
I'm glad Dagny got a good report at the dentist.
@Jane ... I'm glad too. Good to see you! xoxo
She handled that like a champ!! WAY TO GO DAGNY!! She is very brave for her first visit. Hope your week is going great so far!
@Debbi ... hahahahaha yep she's a regular old pro at age six! Aren't kids amazing? xoxo
When our older granddaughter was about 8, she loved her dentist so much, she thought she wanted to be an orthodontist. I think she still is OK with her dentist, but her career plans have shifted. Our younger granddaughter also has a small mouth and has gone through years of orthodontics. I have dreaded dentist visits since I was 9 and had a traumatic tooth event. I'm using Covid as an excuse not to have my checkup.... I have never seen Dagny so serious. Good for her - no cavities!
@Barb ... I guess everyone has both good and bad stories around their dentist and dental visits. I was not taken to the dentist as a child and I've had lots of dental work done as an adult. What traumatizes me most is what it costs (we have no dental insurance). It can be terrifying. I'm not using Covid as an excuse for anything (well, except eating too much) and I don't miss my three-times-per-year cleanings, but that's because I can't afford to. A lot can go wrong very quickly! But then I'm assiduous about my daily cleaning routine and that helps keep lots of problems at bay. I have seen Dagny serious but that was level UP, haaaahahaa! She must have been intimidated by her surroundings. xoxo
Well, she certainly looks comfortable! My grandson Maxwell brings his blanket to the dentist (and everywhere else!) when he goes! Levi is soon to get his first visit at 2 years old. My brother is a dentist so I get dental care for what the insurance pays! I love his hygienist too. Other than cleaning every 6 months I only go there when I absolutely have to!
@Jeanette ... I take my own blank when I go too. And I wish it were ONLY for cleanings! Wahhhaaha xoxo
Oh girl!!! Nobody hates the dentist office worse than ME! I always tell my hygenist, "I love you, but I hate coming to see you." Both she and my dentist try to treat me with kid gloves because they know how I am! My granddaughter, bless her heart, has had lots of orthodontal work! Her teeth were in the worst shape as far as position. After tons of money, braces, invisiline, and I don't know what all, her teeth are looking gorgeous!
@Cheri ... hooray for a great result after all your granddaughter has been through at the dentist. Me, I just go to put out fires. Haahahahaha xoxo
Your granddaughter did well, good for her. I love those big glasses.
Good luck to her in her future orthodontists work. My youngest only had to have two braces for just a short time. Talk about lucky! Our oldest son, he had a mouth full of braces, rubber bands and a retainer.
;-)
I love the quote you shared with your dentist.
@Carla ... Oh wow, your eldest really went through it for straight teeth! I needed braces but there was no money in our family for anything like that ... oh wait! My sister got the braces, haahaaa! xoxo
