God Bless America ... and Josh
I know I'm like a broken record when it comes to Josh Groban, but I can't help it. And since I won't have time to put up a new blog post until the middle of next week (I must wait until the opportune moment), I offer you the following ...
Grobie sang God Bless America during the seventh-inning stretch of the All Star Game at Yankee Stadium on July 15th. I didn't watch the game with TG (who lasted 13 of the 15 innings before giving up and coming to bed) and truth be known I wasn't even aware that Josh was scheduled to be there, but isn't that why there's YouTube?
[UPDATE AS OF 7/23 ... Josh's glorious patriotic baseball moment appears to have been yanked from YouTube ... must have been copyright issues ... oh well ... instead I leave you with a video of strange unrecognizable creatures humming Ode To Joy ...]
[UPDATE AS OF 7/24 ... Erica put me onto a great YouTube of Josh singing the National Anthem at a football game awhile back, so here it is! I promise to stop tweaking this post now! You may still watch the crooning creatures if you want.]
Is he not spectacular? Don't you love the way he simply uses his magnificent God-given voice to sing the song, allowing its wonderful message to shine through, instead of making a spectacle of himself and rendering the song all but unrecognizable? Thank you, Josh. You are a national treasure.

I love Josh Groban, have many of his CD's and tunes on my iPod. My favorite that makes me cry is "To Where You Are", makes me think of my Mother who died when I was 26 and I hope she's looking down on me. Glad you posted this video.
I'm sorry you lost your mom when you were so young, Elaine! I know you miss her. I have missed you and was in fact just thinking about you today! To Where You Are is certainly a beautiful tribute.
I thought of you when I heard him sing that song. (With so many Cubs in the game, we had to watch it.) Groban does have a beautiful voice.
You thought of me, Ruth? That is so cool! I think of you now, whenever I see roses. TG said the same thing about all the Cubs, LOL!
Josh really is a national treasure. Thanks so much for sharing this. I haven't seen him sing in a long time.
I love every note that comes out of that mouth ! Glad you pointed this out because Jim is in Guatemala and so noooooooooooo baseball is making over my tv air waves! I would have missed this blessing. Dixie
Wow! That sent tingles down my spine. And I'm not even American! What a stunning voice. I shall definitely look out for more Josh Groban now. Thanks for sharing that...
I'm never short of amazed when I drop by here! I've said it before, and I'll just have to keep repeating myself: you are an exquisitely talented descriptive writer!
And I just love how much pleasure you took in the surrounding beauty, appreciating every little detail. Not many people do that.
(I love rain too.)
@ Cheryl ... you are so welcome! I was so glad my daughter (another huge Grobie fan) told me about it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoying!
@ Dixie ... I sooooo hear you re: baseball! I don't mind going to a game (once in a great while) but I can't watch it on TV! We're praying for Jim and Bo!
@ Diane ... oooh, get yourself Josh's album Closer. You won't regret it!
@ JD ... as always you are too, too kind! You are a great writer and for you to praise mine is a treat for me. Isn't rain just the best? I love a rainy day when I can stay indoors ... and sleep ... and wake and still have rain to sit and read by! Thanks for stopping by!
Ah ... that was so beautiful!! I totally agree with you about the way he sings. I know it's fashion and personal taste but I cannot stand the current trend for singing in that wibbly style which will do anything rather than actually hit the note. It drives me nuts!
I don't know why, but I love American Patriotic Music. I just do. It's so grand and stirring compared to our own, and there's passion in it. As to Josh Groban, I simply adore his voice, it's just amazing. He sang ... I can't quite remember, either the Star Spangled Banner or America, The Beautiful (forgive me!) at a Superbowl and I was so stunned that I went straight out and bought a CD.
I watched the game, and like Ruth, I thought of you when I listened to Josh Groban sing. The guy is good. No doubt about it. Thanks.
We happened to be watching when he sang. What a lilting, lovely crooner's voice he has. Daughter and son-in-law had just walked out the door to go home from celebrating her daddy's birthday...and she LOVES Joshy baby. Yes, thank goodness for youtube.com!!!!!!
Count me in as a huge Josh Groban fan... his voice is an instrument in itself. I agree, I hate most "interpretive" singing - just sing the song already! As for baseball, I only watch the World Series on t.v.
I love his voice, there is something so soothing about it. "Remember When It Rained" is one of my favorite songs of his. Ehhhh whatever, they're all favorites. ;-)
Thanks for posting that, I had missed the game!!
@ Jay ... wibbly -- now there's a word I can get behind, LOL! I am so touched by your comments about American patriotic music. And it doesn't get much better than Josh, who I consider the Johnny Depp of music ... high praise indeed from one such as I!
@ Sid ... what a sweet thing to say. Thanks for dropping by, my friend.
@ June ... your girl has very good taste, as does her mama! Good to see you, luvvy.
@ Rosezilla ... Amen and amen!
@ Angi ... Anything Josh sings becomes special! He is really something. I love that song you mentioned too. My new favorite song of his is Awake.
What a heavenly voice! Would you believe that I was completely unfamiliar with Josh Groban until I heard him for the first time right here, on your site? Can't wait to hear some of his other tunes. Thanks!
Keli, I am so happy to have introduced you to the matchless Josh! JMHO but I think he may be the most talented male soloist on the scene today. We're all wild about him at our house! You must get yourself an album ... they're all great but my favorites are Josh Groban and Closer.
