Old Dreams. New Blues.
Andrew was asked to participate in a patriotic program -- no; I'm not intentionally trying to be all alliterated; it just happened that way -- at church yesterday, and to show up in uniform.
As in, dress blues.
Only, the only dress blues hanging in the son and heir's closet were his original set -- issued ten years ago when he completed basic training.
Airman Andrew discovered to his chagrin something he had already suspected: the suit did not fit. Eighteen being a far skinnier cry than twenty-eight, he could not wear it. But not to panic.
Off he went to a nearby Air Force base and asked for new blues.
He came away beautifully outfitted and with all of his many decorations finally in place on his (now broader than before, but no less brave) chest.
And here, just in time for the quintessential patriotic holiday, we have a genuine American hero who is about to be deployed to the Middle East for the third time in his career as a boom operator.
Beginning in late July, he'll be refueling fighter planes in flight over Afghanistan for approximately five weeks.
Meanwhile, we have these treasures: our hero pictured after the program last evening with his parents, with two of his sisters, with one of his beloved nieces, and with his girl.
Hashtag iPhoneography strikes again.
And that is all for now except to say to all those who leave their homes and families to defend our nation throughout her days: Thank you for your service.

Andrew looks especially handsome in his uniform. That last photo is especially poignant. We thank him for his service and will keep him in our prayers.

@Mari ... those prayers are appreciated more than you know. xoxo
@Luna ... Girl you nailed it! Both times! I love your patriotic spirit. Long may it wave. Happy Happy Fourth of July to you and yours. xoxo
So, here we are on the Fourth of July 2017. We are busy grilling chicken, making fruit salad, cutting watermelon, and boiling water for corn on the bone, as our children used to call it, and the TV in the background talking about how the fighter jets are ready at any moment to protect us from North Korea and protecting the White House. I don't ever remember a Fourth of July like this one. They used to talk about the price of hotdog and gas. So thankful that our hope is in our Lord today!
Your son, Andrew. We will be praying for him. My first thought was that he might be safer in an airplane than on the ground.....maybe that is a stretch, but his work up there is for the Lord. God will be with him!
And, again, that little Dagny slays me with her poses. She looks like she is posing for the White House! I LOVE that picture with her uncle. She knows this is important stuff! Ha! Ha! I declare!!!!
Thank you to Andrew for serving his country! What a beautiful patriotic family you are! Happy Fourth of July!
@Cheryl ,,, We didn't watch or listen to news today, and now I'm glad! But perhaps I should get caught up. I know our military is the greatest on earth, even though some presidents have attempted to diminish its might. Please do pray for Andrew; it is always a tense time for me even though he downplays the danger. He says what you said: he's safest at 30,000 feet. But I still struggle with worry. Dagny adores Andrew and she does know to strike a pose, having been dressed like a little doll and cameras stuck in her face for her entire life. I'm glad you and Alan had a happy day! xoxo
This touches my heart and makes me feel like crying, especially that last photo. Instead, I have written "Andrew" on my prayer list so I won't forget to pray morning and night for his safety. Thank you, and God Bless you Andrew, and may every angel in Heaven protect and guide you.
@Judy ... we will be needing those prayers. Thank you for caring enough to send them up. xoxo
Many, many thanks to Andrew for his service. I'll be joining in prayer for his safety. I can only imagine how you feel; how you all feel, Jenny. My heart goes out to all of our service men and women in these days of uncertainty. Andrew - our God is mighty and strong, and HE will send you home safely to your family. I just know it.
xoxo
@Sally ... Thank you for having faith with us, that Andrew will return home safely. So many more put their lives on the line every day. We owe them so much. I'm glad you're feeling better, and well enough to stop by. xoxo
These photos make me happy. I love this family. I thank Andrew for his service. God bless!
@Sallie ... Love you right back. xoxo
