Audrey's Chicago Pix ... Such As They Are
Audrey was in Chicago last week for several days, sent there by her employer, Whirlpool Corporation. She worked hard and only had time to take a few pictures with a camera borrowed from me, but they're passably interesting so I thought I'd share ... like mother like daughter, Audrey has a penchant for big cities, good food, cushy hotels, nice shopping venues ... oh, and self-portraiture. Click on the picture of Audrey to see the other photos in the album "My Kind Of Town" ... enjoy!
"588-2300, Empiiiiiire."
Oh, by the way ... if you do look at the rest of the pictures it might be perfectly natural for you to wonder why my daughter took a picture of the TV screen in her hotel room during a commercial for a carpet company. That's because Audrey was born in Northwest Indiana, 30 miles from Chicago, and she has vivid memories of times we spent in and around the city. TG is a die-hard fan of all Chicago teams but particularly the Cubs, the Bulls, and the Bears. Consequently, Audrey has early and persistent recollections of our television often being tuned to WGN ... where the games were aired and where TG also liked to watch the news.
If you've spent much time watching WGN while in the greater Chicagoland area, or if you've listened to WGN radio, you're familiar with the jingle: "588-2300, Empiiiiiire," which has been sung exactly the same for as long as I can remember. It never leaves your brain once you've learned it, which is all but unavoidable because the little melody is so catchy.
So I can just see Audrey running for the camera when she was in her room and the Empire carpet commercial came on. It reminded her of when she was a little kid. You know how that is! I get similarly verklempt when I'm watching TVLand and hear old commercials like, for example, Brylcreem (a little dab'll do ya) or see Santa Claus slaloming down a mountain on a riding Norelco shaver!

In the first picture she looks just like her brother. In the next one she looks just like you!!!!!! Either way, she's a knockout! Is she the one that's closest to my boy's age????? ^^ Hmmm??? ^^
Aw, that's so sweet of you to say, Joonie! I think she is beautiful but then I would! Audrey's 25, single and unattached. Can you believe it! I can't remember how old your boy is but perhaps an introduction would be in order!!!!
Audrey IS beautiful! Such gorgeous eyes! And yes, she does look like you, but presumably, her father too.
But ... where's Johnny? Boo hoo. No Johnny.
Nice pics though!
Thank you, Jay! I will tell her you said so. I have always thought that Audrey resembles her father the most, but you know how it is: other people see our children differently than we do.
And alas, although we thought Johnny as John Dillinger was going to be holding up the Bridgeview Bank while Audrey was in Chicago, that shooting was apparently delayed while they finished up some scenes in Wisconsin. He arrived in Chicago the day after she left! Drat!
Wow ! You and Gregg made some beautiful kids...oh yeah, let's give God the credit tooooooo ! I remember when Jim and I brought our 3 to Chicago and visited you in Indiana ! I love looking at the pictures from that visit. The kids were all little then..Andrew in a stroller.
Hey, Let's make a plan to get together soon. The beach house is almost ready to occupy again and the little center street there has some great little place to eat. Hugs to all of you.
Yeah, LOL ... me, Greg, and God are an unbeatable trio! At least that's my story! Those are some wonderful memories of when y'all visited us in 1991! Can't wait to see the beach house ... invite us and we will come!
My boy will be 22 in July, so Audrey is the one closest to my daughter's age. She'll be 26 in September...and a first-time mommy! Her baby is due September 14.
Well I know that, Joonie ... or should I say, Grandma ...
You have a lovely, lovely daughter! And boy can I relate to "...big cities, good food, cushy hotels, nice shopping venues.." Yes!
Thank you, Keli! Sounds like you're part of The Sisterhood of the Glamor-Conscious! Cool.
