SkyWatch Friday: Falling behind

Have you ever considered how boring and empty the landscape would be without the sky as backdrop?
Well have you?
I know. Clearly I have too much time on my hands.
Or not enough. You be the judge. At least I have hands for time to be on.
When in a cemetery, I am always aware of the sky. The blue and the clouds add a beauty and drama to the surroundings like no other feature is able to do.
Often monument photos are lost in the clutter and confusion of trees and nearby monuments or stones. And stuff.
But when you stand back and let the sky fall behind your subject, something magical happens.
In late 2012 I spent a couple of days in Rock Hill, South Carolina, photographing Laurelwood Cemetery.
The cemetery is old but it's active. My favorite kind.
It is situated across the street from a massive now-defunct manufacturing mill.
Just beyond the fence on the opposite edge is a blue water tower.
I like all of it. I want to go back in the spring and capture more images of Laurelwood.
But until that time, I hope you enjoy these memories with me.
If you have a camera and enjoy nature, try spending time in a cemetery and taking a few photos of what you see.
Do not be afraid. Everybody there is really nice. And courteous, and quiet. Like the best kind of folk, they're past caring what you do.
I would love to see what you see. So if you do that, I hope you'll share.
And that is all for now.

Wonderful photographs. You have given me something to think about :).
These are lovely! Yes, it's always nice to have an interesting sky for a backdrop and contrast. I took a few snaps in some of the downtown Charleston cemeteries. And they are truly snapshots. Mr. Jim was tired from walking, so I couldn't dally. I would have loved to set up with a tripod and done some HDR work. Perhaps later. But I may have a few good shots from this recent trip that I can share later on my blog.
I do notice the sky. It makes such a difference in photos! You have some gorgeous sky background in these pictures!
Lovely view, and I like the bit about the hands. Wonderful visit as usual.
Superb! As always! Enjoyed so much! I have been a "Sky Watcher" since I was a child...sunrises, sunsets, clouds, storms, etc.! So nice to connect with another one...YOU! ;-) My Mother's Ancestors on Long Island were sailors and harbor pilots in Long Island Sound (aka: New York Harbor)...there is an old saying I like very much, of which you may be aware: "Red sun in the morning, sailor take warning...red sun at night, sailor's delight"! Janet in Texas, where we have the "wide, open spaces" to view the sky from horizon to horizon/East to West! One of my favorite "Sky Watchings" is the Moon! Lovely from sliver to full! Venus is an added delight to viewing the Moon in certain seasons! Your photographs are such a Blessing, Jenny! Thank you for sharing!
