Playing Favorites :: Norpro KRONA
Ugh. I should have had this post up earlier today.
Pirate apologies; I have been distracted by all the summer activities.
And it isn't even summer yet.
Not only that, but I started a post last Thursday that I never finished.
Hee's a promise: I will finish it by this Thursday. I hope you can wait that long.
Speaking of summer, it still was (but barely) when, in September of 2019, TG and I went to Chicago.
Both on the way there and on the way back, we spent some time in Indianapolis.
We visited Crown Hill Cemetery and Colts Stadium, amongst other places.
On the way to Chicago and on the way home, we stayed at the same all-suites hotel.
The property was immaculate and quiet.
With your room, you got a living room and kitchen.
In said kitchen there was a full-size refrigerator, a small stove, and even a dishwasher.
We didn't really need all of that, but the price was right for the accommodations, and the bed was exquisitely comfortable.
The reason I am telling you this part is that, perched atop the small stove, pretty as could be, was a charming saucepan.
It was a stainless steel eight-cup Norpro KRONA. I was instantly smitten by its design and began turning it over in my hands, inspecting all of its angles and attributes.
I mean, it was just so cute. Such adorable proportions.
On the bottom was printed:
KRONA
NORPRO
18/10 STAINLESS STEEL
INOX
ROSTFREI
(Inox is a brand of kitchenware. It turns out that rostfrei is the German word for rust free.)
Even before we got back home, I had ordered one for my kitchen.
My new pan and I bonded as soon as I took it out of the box.
It is just the sort of pan that a pirate should possess.
Its size is great for, say, making a couple (or even three or four) hardboiled eggs, or heating a few portions of soup, or whipping up a sauce, or -- this is my favorite use for it -- making a large serving of oatmeal with strawberries.
The fact that it is taller than it is wide, is an extra bonus. It's fun to stir things in this pan.
In addition, the vented glass lid has a nice spout for pouring off liquids. And the handsome handle stays cool.
Plus -- and this is significant -- I like the look of this pan so much that it lives atop my stove.
I never put it away. It just sits there being extra.
Maybe you are in a loving relationship with all of your pots and pans, and have no desire to stray into the arms of another, or invite a new one into your life.
But if you are in the market for a new saucepan, one not too big (although it comes bigger, in a twelve-cup version) but with a surplus of style, maybe you will consider getting a Norpro KRONA.
It would make an excellent gift for a new bride, too -- or for anyone who enjoys cooking and all the gear that goes along with it.
At any rate, it's my favorite pan out of all of my pans, and I don't mind telling you that I have had some of those for over forty years.
That about sums it up.
And that is all for now.

Happy Monday

I love it, it is really, really cute! And I believe it will last lifetime, probably many lifetimes!.I have asimilar one of a different brand, but it is nonstick.
OMGOSH- there is nothing like a pan in the kitchen that you love. I feel the same way about my AllClad and I have had the set for at least 20 years. Now just think of what you can whip up in your GALLEY! and you can serve it up with Sea Biscuits. xo Diana
@Ginny ... Yes it's one of those instant heirlooms! It's important to love your pans. xoxo
@Diana ... YES! Sea Biscuits! With lots of apple butter ... xoxo
It is quite handsome! While being cute, too! A big accomplishment for a pan. -smile-
And I like the German for rust free!!!!! It's one of those foreign words, which, when you learn the meaning, I say; "Oh yes, I should have seen that!!!!!" -smile-
It's being quite unbearably hot, up here in "**** Yankee Land"... (-sigh-moan-sigh-whimper-sigh-) This gal, with Northern blood in her veins, has a hard time dealing with this type of weather. (-repeat sigh, etc., etc.) And this tendency, has grown more noticeable, with age. (-repeat, etc.)
How do you Southern Ladies deal with it??????
Piping hot, sizzling, roasting, fiery, sultry, scorching, searing Mari-Nanci -grin-
@Mari-Nanci .... haaaahaa piping hot, sizzling, roasting, fiery, sultry, scorching, searing friend ... I feel you, my dear. It is actually unseasonably cool here at present; highs only in the 80s. But the humidity is, as they say, off the charts. It rains every day but there is sunshine too. I never know when to water my flowers. I am fortunate in that I don't have to spend time outdoors unless I want to. It's very cool in my house (year round). One thing I know from having lived up north for many years though, is that it won't be long before you have gorgeous do-able temps again. And yes isn't "rostfrei" the cutest little word? I should have seen its meaning but there wan't much chance of that! Cute pan, cute word. xoxo
Well - you know what I'm going to do as soon as I finish here. I'll be looking up that pan. Because it is so cute and classic and looks like it will last!
As Mari-Nanci said - it is so hot here! I too feel like a wimp next to you who live in this heat all the time. :)
@Mari ... stay cool, friend! And since the pan is so inexpensive, and I think you will like it SO much, I do hope you get one! Let me know! xoxo
I agree. I have a favorite set of pots that I was gifted from my friend Irma.
@Carla ... pots and pans can be like friends, when you have a history with them or associate them with happy memories ... xoxo
I definitely will be checking that pot out! I use a sauce pan pretty much every day and the one I use now is just a cheap one from IKEA. Like you, all the rest of my pots and pans were bought by me before I was married in 1977. Unfortunately the handle on the sauce pan broke beyond fixing a while ago. Nice enough to keep on full display, huh? Used to be keeping a fancy teapot on your stove was a thing.
@Jeanette ... oh my tea kettle is up there too! It's from Vermont Country Store, such a cute size and design, and all shiny aluminum, a gift from Erica several Christmases ago. Until I got my Krona there was nothing else I would have dreamed of allowing to share the stove with my kettle. But it's so darling, I can't put it away in the cupboard. I hope you get one! Remember there is a larger size than this 8-cup; I would love to have them both. Let me know if you add this to your collection!~ xoxo
I'm looking forward to your Thursday post :)
Wow what a cool looking pan! I'll have to run it by hubby if he would want it. He's the cook in the family. It seems very versatile though so I'm thinking I may be ordering one soon!
Thanks for a great review of it!
betty
Howdy there Jenny, that is a BEAUTIFUL pot!---all shiny and fancy! I might have to get one! I loved your Memorial day post as well. I'm sure looking forward to your next post, I hope it's today! I've been very un-inspired with making new posts....not with LIFE.........LIFE IS GOOD----LOL---just not been too inspired to write on my blog. But I hope I remedied that this morning, I finally did post something, LOL!! I will try to do better. Hope all is well your way. Goodness gracious..........it's gotten HOT, HASN'T IT? I guess summer is here. The windows are shut up tight and the air is running. Jenny our sunflowers bloomed! And we picked green beans! so fun! So far most all of our flowers are doing good. Hugs!!
Well, I guess my original comment never went through? I wrote it the first day you posted. Anyhoo, I wanted to say we loved Indianapolis when we visited in 2018. Wonderful riverfront walk area near the zoo and museums. Also, their art museum north of the city is amazing!
I love your pan, mostly because of the height, but the inside measurements and the unique lid are something I’ve never had in a pot. Very useful so thanks for the recommendation.
@betty ... I will definitely post that boring post today, haaaha! I hope you're not disappointed after the wait. I think your husband (and any cook) would love having this pan in their arsenal. Let me know if y'all get one! xoxo
@Debbi ... YES I have missed you so much and I will check out your new post immediately! Just last night I was wondering how much longer it would be. Sunflowers and green beans? WOW I could never grow anything like that, I don't think. I bet those green beans will taste so good next to whatever your beloved grills up for you.Yep it's heating up! The cicadas are singing! Just a few more days until official summer and then we're in for it. The humidity just about levels me unless I can just sit still, haahaha! I'm a humidity wimp. xoxo
@Bijoux ... I'm SO sorry that your comment did not go through. It's SO annoying when that happens, and it happens even to me, and it's MY site! You have to kind of be looking for it (which you should not ever have to do) but sometimes it will say, your comment was not posted. Then you have to scroll back and post it again, but I don't expect you to bother with that. So thanks for coming back and posting again!~ I wish so much that we had had more time in Indy. Wow, great city. We want to go back. We love art museums and that will definitely be at the top of the list, if we can make enough time for it!~ I think you'd love this pan ... let me know if you get one! xoxo
This looks like a little pan with a big personality. I like the height, the strainer for liquids, and the cute handle. Unfortunately (or fortunately), we have two drawers full of good pans, some of which I rarely use. Do you wash it by hand? Bob (the dishwasher in our house) always washes the stainless by hand.
@Barb ... Well, that is a perfect word for my pan: personality! It truly does have that. I actually do put it into the dishwasher once in a while, although I do prefer to wash and polish it by hand since it sits out. I can't believe Bob is the dishwasher! I wish I had one ... except, NO ONE is allowed to load my dishwasher except me, hahahahaaa! They know not to even try it. I can't handle things not being packed in there according to my plan. I know; dumb. I should let them do it but I fear it's too late and they will never offer again. xoxo
