Quick! Kick Him While He's Down!
Someone sent me this news story and I just have to tell you about it.
Justin Hill of Rock Island, Tennessee, was turning in to his driveway last week when he made the critical error of executing that turn directly into the path of another vehicle, causing a serious accident.
Wouldn't want the guy to get away with anything.
You don't want to be doing that, mate.
This was only the first domino to fall, however.
When Justin's wife, inside their trailer cooking supper for him, heard what must have been the horrendous noise of the crash, she ran outside. She left the stove on.
Wait for it!
The trailer caught fire and sustained extensive damage. One can only imagine Mrs. Hill watching helplessly as her home burned, her husband simultaneously being airlifted from the scene of a bad wreck.
That he caused.
Which is why, when all the dust settled, Justin Hill got a ticket! Wouldn't want the guy to get away with anything.
I'll bet you a cupcake he's gonna get sued, too. The complaint will likely be in the mail before he gets home from the hospital, all time-stamped and official.
And his dog will probably never speak to him again.
Who knows what his wife is thinking.
Makes me want to send those two a loaf of my banana bread.

Poor guy! Please somebody tell me these people had homeowners insurance...
Thanks for your kind words at my blog, btw. I love yours. Probably because I'm not big on rocket science,I love sarcasm, and have no interest in the Easter Bunny's blog. I'm quite sure I'll stay.
re: the insurance ... one can only hope!
Clearly you are my kind of reader, RJ! Thanks for the compliment and here's to happy reading for all!
Wow...this is one of those stories where you don't know whether to laugh or just feel really, really sorry for them. Or both. Simultaneously...but then you feel bad for them, and bad for laughing. That's too much feeling bad for one day...
I agree, Angi! Enough! Justin needs to watch where he's going! Most likely he's going to court ...
Forget about the dog, his wife may never speak to him again... Poor guy
Sadly this happens all the time. :(
I remember first hearing about this kind of thing way back, when a friend was driving home and blew a tyre. He and his car ended in the ditch. He was injured and the car badly damaged. No-one else was involved, and yet the police took the trouble to test his tread depth and did him for having worn tyres.
At least his house didn't catch fire, though, eh?
@ Daniel ... exactly. He's got some serious sweettalking to do.
@ Jay ... yep. Mr. Hill's house catching fire would be the coup de grace, I believe!
I first saw the story on my RSS feed. I laughed. Then I felt sorry for the guy. Then I laughed some more. Then I groaned, knowing what you've so eloquently ruminated. To wit:
1. Yeah, sucker's gettin' sued. That was obvious.
2. His karma meter must be running on empty.
3. I could only imagine the missus standing between her man and the conflagration - impotent to do anything - twisting in the wind, as it were. She probably needs a hug.
4. If he turned in a residential area, and the oncoming car exceeded 25mph, maybe he has a chance to countersue. Might be worthwhile.
5. If I were him, I'd buy a lottery ticket. Clearly, he's had his run of bad luck.
Hey Daniel!
1. Yepper ... better lawyer up, dude ... head 'em off at the pass as it were.
2. So much was going wrong at once, it's a wonder his dogma didn't get run over by that karma.
3. It's funny ... they both destroyed valuable personal property but I guess she can at least say "You started it!"
4. Sure you're not a plaintiff attorney?
5. Well, let's hope so, anyway!
Oh, of COURSE that has to be a lawsuit. Someone's gotta make money off of this poor guy's misfortune. What a shame. (But also kind of funny!)
JD ... yeah! I hope a court reporter gets in on it and takes umpteen depos with hundreds of pages and huge appearance fees and several copy attorneys! Spread the joy as it were! It is, after all, the American way.
This sounds like one of the cases that I read for Bo's law classes or the bar exam. I would not want to be any of the characters in this scene...not even the lawyers. I love just ordinary days !
Hey Dixie ... yes, there is a certain poetic beauty to "ordinary days." Thanks for reminding me of that!
.....and of course she will get sued by other residents for causing them possible future breathing problems due to smoke inhalation.
I hadn't thought of that angle, Forest! Given the greed of our litigious society, that would not surprise me.
...and send the law a loaf of chitlins.
